Supporting Rescue Greyhounds, Lurchers and Whippets
As the proud owners and fosters of rescue greyhounds and now a lurcher, and being involved in voluntary work for sighthound charities, we want to spread the word about the pleasures of adopting a pointy and to support the many greyhound, lurcher, whippet and iggy rescues that are working tirelessly for our beautiful hounds.
On this page you will find links to a wide selection of charities and rescue organisations that are involved in rehoming – please support them. If you’d like to see a rescue or charity added to this list, please email us. Although we salute the excellent work done by all-breed rescues, this website is focused on the needs of pointies, so organisations listed will mainly or wholly work with these dogs.
We also want to do our bit to help and support rescues in their work. If you run a rescue, here’s how we can help, all we ask is that you acknowledge our support and place a link on your website to us:
- Donation of bandana or coat for raffle or fundraiser
- Delighted to attend/have a trade stall at events
- Happy to promote events or campaigns via our website, Facebook page or Twitter feed
- Donation of Milgi Dreamcoats (see examples at the bottom of this page) to kennel dogs and rescues
If you are involved with a rescue and there's a special dog who could benefit from our help please contact us.
Some of the greyhounds and lurchers we've helped
Onyx
This is the gorgeous Onyx who was a foster hound with Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue. When he came into the charity's care, he was cold at night as his foster mum doesn't have central heating. Fortunately we saw his picture on Facebook and were able to help him by making him a lovely purple fleece housecoat. He's now in a new home.
Maggie
This is Maggie, a beautiful 10 year old girl who came into the care of Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue. When she arrived she was very poorly, underweight, neglected and suffering mange. Thanks to the kindness and skill of the wonderful people at EGLR, her vet and especially her foster mum Rachel, she recovered beautifully and we are very pleased to say she is now living happily in her new forever home.
Arthur
This is Arthur, an elderly greyhound who was adopted from Greyhound Welfare, the South East Wales branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust. He used to be a racer, but now he is enjoying his retirement living with an elderly lady and very kindly walked regularly by a local dog trainer. Arthur's coat helps him keep cosy on cold winter days.
Bella
This is the beautiful Bella from the Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary to whom we donated a greyhound coat. Bella is a beautiful 3 year old girl and she is currently in kennels and waiting for a foster home.
Jacob
This is Jacob, a beautiful elderly Saluki in the care of Bristol DAWG who is looking for a home. Jacob was feeling the cold Milgi Coats donated a fleece coat to keep him warm.
Tara
This is Tara, winner of a giveaway coat in the Greyhound Sanctuary auction. Tara is a rescue lurcher who suffered very badly from mange, so really needs the warmth provided by the fleece coat.
Dreamcoats from Milgi Coats
We have donated over thirty Milgi Dreamcoats to rescues. These are our special, often unique designs, using fabric offcuts and remnants. If you are involved with a rescue and there's a special dog who could benefit from a Dreamcoat please contact us.
